Seasoned Team At Solar Frontier Americas Development Delivers First-Class Quality In Morelos Del Sol Project
Managed with best-in-class execution and a carefully coordinated timeline by the highly-experienced, development team of Solar Frontier Americas Development LLC, Morelos Del Sol is located in Kern County, California. The 15 MW photovoltaic (PV) project is installed with Solar Frontier’s advanced CIS solar modules and Clavijo single-axis horizontal solar trackers. Solar Frontier modules generate more power than conventional crystalline silicon in real-world conditions. The optimized solar components effectively reduce the levelized cost of energy and can potentially boost production up to 30%. Construction on Morelos began in July and is expected to reached commercial operation in late 2015. However, planning began much earlier, as the development team worked closely with PG&E to meticulously coordinate timing on the interconnection to not disrupt other users on the line and accommodate backfeed restrictions. The team also worked in close communication with Southwestern Gas as a gas line ran diagonally under the site increasing the technological complexities of the project’s construction. In addition, geological features of the site required special engineering to meet all project timelines and implement first-class quality in project construction. Morelos is equipped with high-quality, enclosed power conversion stations that were pre-built to reduce time and labor onsite. An experienced team dedicated to tight project management and monitoring ensured the project’s successful completion.
DEPCOM Power installed the PV project. Morelos’s clean energy is provided to PG&E under a 20-year power purchase agreement. In October 2015, Southern Power, subsidiary of Southern Co, (along with Turner Renewables) acquired Morelos Del Sol expanding the utility giant’s renewable energy portfolio to 8 solar projects in California with a total capacity of over 300 MWs.
